Maths and English
We offer a wide range of maths and English courses to help improve the basic skills you need everyday. Before you enrol on a course, you'll need to take a Skills Check to assess what you already know and find the areas you need to work on.
Skills Assessment
Initial Assessment (Online or CD Rom)
Diagnostic Assessment
Word Skills Check
Number Skills Check
The diagnostic assessment tells us which areas, in particular, you may need help with and you can then progress onto the course that's right for you.
Courses
Most maths and English courses take between 3 hours and 10 hours to complete. Each course is broken down into bite-sized chunks of learning, so you can do things at your own pace and dip in and out of them whenever you wish.
Everyday English Skills - Writing, Reading, Vocabulary, Spelling and Grammar
Everyday Maths Skills - Whole Numbers, Fractions & Decimals, Common Measures, Handling Data, Shape and Space
Once you've completed your maths or English course(s), to get a certificate you need to take and pass a short test which consists of 40 multiple choice questions and takes one hour to complete. You will get the results immediately so there's no waiting around and you receive your certificate very soon after passing the test.
Because our tests can be taken online, they are flexible so you can take them at a time that suits you.
Qualifications
OCR Certificate in Adult Numeracy Level 1 and 2
OCR Certificate in Adult Literacy Level 1 and 2
These nationally recognised qualifications will give you extra confidence and a sense of achievement and they measure skills up to the same level as GCSE, so if there's a gap in your qualifications, we can help you fill it.
You can access your course(s) from anywhere where you have access to the internet. All of the Skills for Life English and maths courses are available online so you can study at a time and pace that suits you, from the comfort of home in the evening or at weekends, in your workplace during lunch breaks or quiet period or at the Numidia Centres in Coventry City Centre and Tile Hill.
